What is the UAE Green Visa

Earlier this month, new UAE Green Visa regulations went into force. How to start the application procedure is shown here. Without the necessity for a sponsor or employee, the new 5-year Green Residence visa will be targeted at outstanding talents, skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs. Holders of green residence visas will be eligible to sponsor the relocation of family members.



Green Visa eligibility



The Green Visa is available to freelancers and self-employed people who can show they have a bachelor's degree or specialized diploma, a freelance permit from the MoHRE, and proof of their financial stability for the duration of their stay in the country, which must be at least AED360,000.

A valid employment contract, classification in the first, second, or third occupational level according to MoHRE, a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, and a minimum salary of AED 15,000 are requirements for skilled workers.

It is necessary for investors or partners to obtain the approval of the investment, proof of investment, and the appropriate local authorities.


  • Green Residence Visa for skilled employees:

The new pathway offers skilled workers a 5-year residency without a sponsor or employment. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, the applicants should be in the first, second, or third occupational level and possess a current job contract. A bachelor's degree or its equivalent is required as a prerequisite, and the annual compensation cannot be less than $4,083. (AED 15,000).

The following documentation is required from employees in order to take advantage of the green residence:


- A work permit based on a legitimate employment contract

- According to the Ministry of Human Resources' recognized professional categorization and the Emiratisation process, a person must be a skilled worker at the first, second, or third professional level.

- The compensation should be at least Dh15,000 each month.

- Bachelor's degree is the required entry-level qualification.


  • Green Residence Visa for investors or partners:

This option offers freelancers and other self-employed people a 5-year residency without the need for a sponsor or employer in the UAE, in keeping with the growing significance of flexible work patterns. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization's freelance/self-employment permit is a requirement for candidates. The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor's degree or specialized diploma, and the candidate must demonstrate financial stability for the duration of their stay in the country by earning at least $98,000 (AED 360,000) in self-employment annually over the past two years.



Green Visa benefits


  • The holder of a Green Visa may sponsor their children, spouses, and first-degree relatives.

  • Ability to sponsor their male children for up to 25 years (formerly 18 years), with no age restriction for females who are not married.

  • Regardless of age, children of determination (those with exceptional needs) are given a residency permit.

  • After the revocation or expiration of a visa, there will be a six-month overstay term.

  • An entry work permit good for 60 days is available to international candidates for the visa process.
